Department of English has been introduced at Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University, Lyari, Karachi on 1st March, 2012.The department has been rendering invaluable services in achieving the academic goals of the deprived and less educated community, rural in general and urban in particular, in order to uplift the noble cause of education.

Department of English has been introduced at Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University, Lyari, Karachi on 1st March, 2012.The department has been rendering invaluable services in achieving the academic goals of the deprived and less educated community, rural in general and urban in particular, in order to uplift the noble cause of education. Being aware of the present needs of the learners and their real challenges of the future, the department has designed skill oriented and learner based four years BS (HONS) Program in English Linguistics and Literature. Linguistics focuses on various aspects of language such as phonetics, morphology, generative grammar and syntax. Another specially designed area for raising the language competence of the learner is through practice of authentic and advanced textual use of language in context. Literature focuses on unfolding the hidden capabilities of a learner through literary criticism, fictions, dramas, literary essays and critical based learning.
The department not only maintains regularity in academics but offers the students, in every semester, a variety of exciting co-curricular and cultural activities.

To generate excellent undergraduate and graduates in a learner centered environment. To create scholars who will endeavor for further knowledge and awareness, to endorse peace, freedom, democracy and acceptance in our students through development of critical thinking.

Our intention is to provide quality education through latest teaching strategies in order to make students understand the essence of education and develop their critical thinking. Moreover; the aim to mould the students into better human beings, so that they become capable of contributing effectively and efficiently towards national development.
Aims and Objectives:
To develop clarity, precision and maturity in spoken and written English.
To focus attention on the importance of cultural and social values in understanding the forces that have shaped civilization that are shaping the contemporary world.
To prepare students to investigate language related problem and issues in the everyday world. This can best be achieved by providing students with a broad background of knowledge about the nature of language and language use as situated in social discursive and interactional social context.
